My Friends & Family Thought I was Crazy
My friends and family thought I was crazy becoming a chiropractor and I still wonder if I chose chiropractic or if chiropractic chose me.
In high school my mother suffered an injury cross-country skiing that was left untreated for over a year. Over the ensuing years my Mom has had four failed back surgeries with no significant relief of symptoms. The surgical approach never sat well with me and to this day I feel that if I knew then what I know now I may have been able to help my Mom avoid a lot of the suffering she has had to endure. Through this experience I discovered that within me was a desire to help people in a more natural way and that chiropractic was definitely the field of healthcare that resonated best with my own beliefs.
Education
I originally followed in my brother’s footsteps taking mechanical engineering in university but quickly learned that it wasn’t for me. After my first year I transferred into Kinesiology which is the study of human movement. I truly enjoyed learning how complex and remarkable the human body is. Following graduating from the University of Waterloo in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, I decided to continue my educational experience by enrolling in chiropractic college at CMCC in Toronto. (Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College)
At Durham Chiropractic Centre
Following graduating from chiropractic college in 1995, I have been blessed with the opportunity of helping the people of Whitby, Durham Region and beyond achieve better health through chiropractic care. Our office’s main goal is to provide a loving healing environment where a family’s true health potential can be achieved through effective chiropractic care and education to allow an informed health care decision. The greatest compliment and most fulfilling aspect of practice is when a patient has the confidence in me to entrust their newborn into my care. We, at Durham Chiropractic Centre, continue to pursue learning experiences that allow us to upgrade our procedures and techniques in order to provide the most effective care.
I have been married to my wonderful wife, Rita, since 2003, whom I met through mutual friends. We enjoy pursuing the simple things in life, I enjoy the art of cooking, Rita prefers the joy of baking. We both love the outdoors be it through a walk in the woods, getting our hands dirty in the garden, cycling, snowboarding or watching the birds at the feeders. We are also committed to doing our part to protect the environment by ‘greening’ up all aspects of our lives, from the way we drive to the cleaners we use.
My Personal Health Goals
My personal health goals and habits revolve around the desire to be the best I can be and to provide a good example for my practice members. I get adjusted at least once a week to ensure optimal nerve function and peak performance. I exercise and stretch regularly. It is important to remember that health is a journey not a destination and requires an ongoing effort to continue moving forward, there is no coasting when it comes to health because the only way to coast is downhill.
Having been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 30, I know what it is like to have debilitating pain. Now that I am in remission, I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for chiropractic care and the knowledge that I have from being a chiropractor I would not be enjoying the life I have now.
